uncaught exception: java.lang.NullPointerException

Just recently I started getting this on my Blackberry Curve a few times a day. I noticed that it was always after I’d taken the phone out of the holster (which automatically locks the keyboard), and also after I’d not used the phone for some minutes.

I’d recently updated the OS,  and wondered it that was the issue.

Well, I did some poking around with the phone, and got a resolution. I’m not in anyway big on fancy themes or ringtones, but I found a free theme I like,  and had installed that some time ago.

I wondered if a combination of the updated OS and this theme was causing the issue.  I switched back to the original theme,  and everything seemed to work with no java errors anymore.

Then I switched back to the downloaded theme, and again no errors. Of course, when I switched themes it loaded in the default settings for that theme. At some point I’d messed around with images for backgrounds, and I think it could have been the cause, as I regularly transfer my photos and video clips from the phone’s Micro SC card to my desktop.

Anyway, if you’re having such issues with your Blackberry Curve (I assume, but am not sure, if this would apply to other Blackberries), resetting your theme could be a possible answer for you.

As always comments are welcome, if you’ve got a better idea, or something else worked for you for a similar problem.

i bought a red balckberry curve a couple of months ago and ever since i got it i ahve not been able to call or text anyone but they can call me and i can answer but when someone else tries to text me i cant get it. and everyime i try to do anything on it a thing pops up and says Uncaught exception: java.lang.Nullpointerexception. if anyone knows how to fix this problem please tell me how. thank you
  • That is the error I was getting, albeit intermittently. I would suggest,
back up the contents of the phone to your hard drive, via USB cable, and
    then completely re-installing the OS.
