Google has announced the launch of Google Public DNS. It’s an alternative domain name service available to any Internet user.
IT can replace the DNS that are typically provided by Internet Service Providers or Domain Registration companies

Google’s Announcement says  “Google Public DNS [can] serve many DNS requests in the round trip time it takes a packet [...]

Posterous is Cool

Now I have a number of self-hosted web sites, including this one. I have plenty of server space, and I develop websites for a living (amongst other things).
However, I am really taken with Posterous.
It’s so easy to build a blog with it.
There is nothing to do except email Posterous. You don’t even have to join [...]

Google Gives Up

At least on some services. Most folks will have read by now that Google is closing some services down, including Dodgeball and Google Notebook.
I’m quite miffed about the Google Notebook announcement, because I use the darn thing. Google state that they won’t be closing down existing accounts, but they will not allow any new ones.

Firstly, [...]

Using Google Alerts to Track Stuff

When I first discovered Google Alerts I used it to find out what was being written about me, or at least anyone with my name in. It’s amusing perhaps, but not always useful.
However, nowadays I do keep track of a few topics and keywords this way, and it does bring up some useful information from [...]

Summarizing RSS Feeds

I’ve seen much comment and discussion about the practice of summarizing RSS feeds.
The idea behind doing this, is to encourage those that take your feed to come to your blog. They get interested enough in reading the first two or three hundred words of your latest article, that they click on the ‘more’ link.

What about those spare domains that many of us having laying around, that we think we can use one day, but never quite around to putting to real use?
There’s [...]

Free SMS from Google

Those of you that know me, probably know I’m a Google Fan. Ok, I know they’re not perfect (who is), but I like the way they integrate most of their services together. I say most – it’s about time you guys at Mountain View did something cool with GrandCentral!
Anyway, I digress.
What I want to write [...]

New Features On Grand Central From Google

A couple of things spring to mind.
I’d like to be able to change messages based on time of day.
For example, I’d like my business group numbers to get a message saying something like “We’re not able to take your call right now, but we’ll call you back….. etc” during office hours, but something like “Our [...]

Moving A Wordpress Blog

I’ve been thinking about moving my personal blog for some time. It’s in a sub-directory, which is untidy looking to say the least, and perhaps that might affect SEO, or page ranking in some way. Anyway, what really spurned me on was an upgrade.
For some reason, upgrading to Wordpress 2.5 worked on some blogs, and [...]
